Label Of the Month: July 2015
This month’s label is from Scaddow Vineyard, a hidden gem of South Derbyshire. It is a new enterprise for the Webster Family, who have a proud tradition of growing fruit. In 2010, the Webster’s made the decision to expand the business and turned their hand to viticulture.
Karen Capey, Label Apeel’s business development manager for beers, wines and spirits explains: “Scaddows Vineyard approached Label Apeel following a recommendation. Tom and his father came to the factory for a discussion and brought along an idea of the kind of label they were looking for. With the help of the Shuck Design team, we put together the creative for what is a simple but very classy label.”
The Webster family has a strong interest in breeding and training of horses, having developed a very well known thoroughbred Stud at Scaddows Farm.
So, it seemed only fitting that the new wine label would feature their award-winning stallion, Saunter.
Tom Webster from Scaddows Vineyard: “Being new to the drinks industry we wanted to give our wine a great first impact and for that we needed the right label. After researching label companies with experience in the wine and beer industry, we discovered Label Apeel. With their expert advice and technical skills we refined our label with great success. With top feedback from our friends, family and shoppers, we look forward to an ever evolving future.”
Karen explains the magic behind the label: "We decided to use a 4-colour picture of the horse, which we felt was a great idea, as it is both sentimental and unique. It was decided to make the horses head look like a sketched image at 80 per cent black along with all the text. It’s printed on Tintoretto Gesso to give an authentic look, and we added hot gold foil to enhance the look of the label. The labels produced were for a rose and white wine, but watch this space for the next wine release.”
