The Warmth of Africa in a Bottle, Matugga Rum
A new range of premium British rums with an East African heritage. Matugga Golden Rum and Matugga Spiced Rum will officially launch onto the UK drinks market in October 2015. The brand has already picked up an international award - a silver medal at the 2015 New York World Wine and Spirits competition.
The rum is produced in small batches in Cambridgeshire using sugar cane molasses from the rich, red soils of East Africa. It is crafted through traditional copper pot distillation methods and matured in English oak casks, resulting in exquisite aromas, warm flavours and a silky smoothness.
We hear it’s best sipped neat, on the rocks, or as the base for an outstanding cocktail. Delicious in rum cakes too!
Matugga Rum comes in two sizes 70cl and 200ml. The labels for the large bottle are printed on Tinteretto Gesso material, with high build varnish to accent the brand name and gold foil on the front, back and neck labels. For the smaller bottle label we used Silvervac. This is colour-washed to give the impression of a gold foil. Using a little bit of witchcraft and wizardry (ok, not really, just clever printer know how) the labels look very similar but the use of Silvervac is a cost effective way of producing a high quality look without the cost of foil tooling and foiling. We think it’s worked a treat and so do Paul and Jacine, from Matugga Beverages:
“We wanted the labels to showcase our rum brand’s visual identity which includes our iconic “M” monogram and bold, diagonal lines that feature heavily in African iconography and textile patterns. The labels also needed to reflect the craftsmanship that goes into making our small-batch artisan rum, while representing its premium positioning. The very creative and attentive Label Apeel team brought our designs to life through their innovative printing solutions. We’re delighted!”
