Celebrating International Print Day October 19th 2016

By Helen Dugdale.

It’s no great secret that Label Apeel has a fantastic workforce. The labels we produce are a testament to the skill and dedication of our staff and we wouldn’t be Label Apeel without them.

So this year, as International Print Day 2016 began to approach, we knew we wanted to do something a little different to showcase our passion for print. We wanted to do something that would champion the people right at the heart of Label Apeel. So we set about creating a mini photo-series about the people that work behind-the-scenes at Label Apeel.

We released the first of these images to our Instagram account on International Print Day, publishing another to our social media pages each day in the week that followed.

The people in these images know your labels like the back of their hands – and we can’t wait for you to meet them…

"I've probably worked on millions of labels at this machine. So, if I am training someone new, I will always remind them to have lots of patience, not to panic and not to give up. Every day is different at Label Apeel, but it's always interesting."

Hitesh, Prepress Operative

"Labels don't just define the way a product looks - they can define why you want to buy a product too. That's what makes them so interesting to work with."

"Labels with foiling detail are my favourite jobs to run. Ultimately, I just love the look of a really good label."

“Are labels important? They are to me. They’ve given me a job for over 25 years. I was only supposed to be temporary when I came to Label Apeel six years ago, but then Stuart took me on permanently. From day one, everyone was friendly and helpful. So when I do leave, I’d like to help whoever takes over from me as well. It would make me really happy to be able to do that.”

Geoffrey, Sale Executive

“As a sales executive, I double up as both a label consultant and packaging manager for our clients; answering their questions, discussing solutions and talking through any concerns they may have. Despite labels seemingly being quite mundane from an outsiders point of view, it’s interesting that every client, every label even, has unique requirements of its own. Nothing can be assumed when it comes to labels!”

Luke, Flexo Printer

“I like the process of printing labels. Sometimes they’re a real challenge, but there’s steps to it – 1, 2, 3, 4 – and they all add up to create this final product. I remember when I printed my first reflex label on holographic material. It looked great. That’s probably my best print memory. That and the team we have here. Everyone just works together really well.”

“Haha…I’ve been here for 16 years, but my best moment was getting the new rewind machine last week! It’s great. I tell you what though, after all that time, you never fail to notice when a good label runs past you. Proper packaging is just so, so important.”
