Premium whisky label printing with metallic depth
Share
The best whisky labels don’t just carry artwork – they control how the bottle feels in hand, how light moves across the surface and how detail reveals itself from different angles. For Penderyn’s Badwolf 10-year-old single malt, we created a premium whisky bottle label that feels as layered as the spirit inside – metallic, tactile and atmospheric without ever feeling overworked. The goal was to build a label that catches the light, rewards a closer look and still reads clearly both on shelf and in hand.
Printing a premium whisky label with controlled metallics
Produced on Silvervac material, the whisky bottle label uses the metallic substrate selectively across the artwork rather than overpowering the entire label.
A solid white layer sits behind the lower section to keep the darker tones rich and legible, while the aurora-inspired upper artwork prints directly onto the metallic surface to create controlled shimmer and movement.
This custom whisky label is printed four-colour on HP Indigo with additional white and digital gold layers, then runs through the Digicon for embellishment and finishing.
Texture that matches the Badwolf story
Badwolf needed more than a flat, glossy finish. For a truly tactile label, we used a rough-touch varnish across selected areas to introduce grip, contrasted with smoother satin sections so the feel of the bottle changes as you turn it.
The wolf illustration is elevated with high build screen varnish, lifting it from the surface without losing any of the fine line detail in the artwork.
Digital gold toner that behaves like foil
One of the key details on this premium whisky label is the way the gold elements are built, creating a foil‑effect finish without relying on traditional hot foil. By combining digital gold toner with a pillow emboss, the raised metallic areas reflect light with the richness you’d expect from foil, while still keeping the flexibility and responsiveness of digital print.
It’s a small technical decision that makes a noticeable difference to how the label performs on pack.
Premium whisky labels built for discovery
As the bottle moves under light, different textures, gloss levels and metallic effects reveal themselves gradually, encouraging that second look rather than trying to say everything at once.
For Penderyn, this premium whisky label doesn’t just carry the brand; it becomes part of the Badwolf experience - from first glance on shelf to the moment the cork comes out.
