High build varnish is a screen printing technique. By applying a super thick layer of varnish you can pick out key elements of the design. The effect is a raised 3D label.
A fantastic technique for highlighting detail, high build varnish is far better when used sparingly over text or in thin lines.
It's tactile ability gives consumers yet another way to enjoy the packaging. In the image below a series of dots have been printed using high build varnish giving a high grip area.
The high build screen label or tactile label is a fantastic technique when used as decoration in its own right. As you can see here, where it has been used to imitate water droplets on this whisky bottle.
