Label of the Month-July 2026: Padstow Gin’s Shaped Label Design

Share

Padstow Gin has a confident shelf presence without feeling overworked. The design feels clean and balanced on shelf, but a closer look starts to reveal the details that give it its character. The original artwork was created by Ayr Studio and brought into print here at Label Apeel. It’s subtle on first impression, but full of detail once you engage with it.

The Shape Sets the Tone

The main label uses a custom die-cut shape with soft, flowing edges that sweep across the front of the bottle. That shape is what gives the design its character.

It leaves parts of the clear glass exposed, so the bottle and the gin inside become part of the finished look. The label feels almost like it is wrapping around the landscape rather than simply sitting on the bottle. A shape like this needs to be handled carefully in production. It needs to sit naturally on the bottle while keeping the movement and character of the original label design.

Reverse Printing Adds Another Layer

The face of the label is only half the story. On the reverse sits a botanical pattern, printed so it can be seen through the clear bottle.

From the front, the label stays clean and modern. Turn the bottle or look through the glass and another layer starts to appear. That is where reverse-side printing really earns its place. It gives the designer another surface to use without overcrowding the main face of the label. On a clear bottle, it can completely change how the pack feels.

Materials and Finishes Behind this Gin Label

Printed on Tintoretto Gesso UWS, the main label combines the character of a textured paper topped with an ultra-matt scuff varnish and key areas raised and emphasised with high build screen printing, to create a glossy contrast. The neck and tamper label carries the same considered feel, finished with silver foil to add a refined metallic detail at the top of the bottle, turning a practical tamper evident label into an opportunity for brand enhancement.
